Freediving at Uepi – 5 things you’ll love about our 2026 Freediving Retreat

We’ve got some exciting news! We’re getting set to host our first ever Uepi Freediving Retreat –

25th Sep to 2nd Oct, 2026

Joining the amazing Emily & Michael Bates from Brisbane-based Encounter Freediving, you’ll get 7 nights of world-leading instruction and plenty of time to our enjoy pristine coral gardens, drop offs and WWII wrecks.

Wondering what to expect on this year’s Freediving Retreat? Here are the 5 things we’re most excited for…

1. Morning Manta Snorkel

Is there a better way to start the day than by hanging out with our manta mates? Roll out of bed straight to the dive shop, hop in the boat, and in 5 minutes, you could be floating with our friendly neighbourhood gentle giants.

2. Bapita Daytrip

If you’ve been to Uepi at any point over the past 30-odd years, you’d know that the Bapita trip is an absolute MAINSTAY. The vertically-perched Taiyo fishing boat wreck, Bapita Sinkhole and sunken WWII planes at the end of the Seghe Airstrip combine for what might be the most unique combination of underwater experiences one could ever have.

And as lucky as we are to have some of the most incredible reefs and coral gardens within 30 seconds of our Dive Jetty, it’s safe to say the daytrip is worth every moment.

3. Depth-line Freediving Training

This is of course, an optional addition to the Retreat – but if you’re keen to develop your skills with the absolute best, and feel safe and confident while testing yourself, you’re in the right place. Not to mention, the reef-edge serenity, and warm tropical Marovo water always makes things more fun.

4. Freediving Certification

Tying in perfectly with that last point, if you’re new to Freediving, and want to become certified, Emily and Michael are the most supportive and knowledgeable instructors – and are offering a Level 1 Freediving Course for Retreat participants for $250 AUD.

And with multiple excursions per day, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to hone your abilities, no matter your experience level.

5. Uepi Family Dinner

If a manta snorkel is the perfect way to start the day, then as much as we don’t want to toot our own horn too much, there’s no better way to finish off a big day of adventuring than by indulging in some chilli crab, crayfish tails or batta fish from the buffet.

And of course, we could go on for probably another 20 things we’re excited about for this retreat, but we don’t want to hold you up all day.

So, if you want to learn more, or book a place on the Freediving Retreat this 25th Sep to 2nd Oct, 2026, send us an email to hello@uepi.com
